First Aid is an obvious vital skill. First Aid training gives cadets the education to be able to perform various First Aid scenarios. As from 2006, the Air Training Corps have created the St Johnís Lifesaver plus Badge, which means that cadets have achieved a basic amount of knowledge so as to know what to do in the event of an accident. First Aid can also be taken to a second stage where Cadets 16+ can take part in the First Aid at Work qualification which means that cadets have taken an advanced level first aid Qualification.
First Aid can also be taken to competition level, where cadets walk into a room where a casualty will have anything from a nose bleed to a seizure This requires cadets to have a thorough knowledge of the subject and the practical ability to perform First Aid on other people. At 51 (Orton) Squadron we happen to be very good at First Aid, this can be seen as we are the current silver medallists in the Young Grand Prior.
