Awards Evening 2009

Trousers were pressed and shoes were polished to perfection for 51 Orton Squadron’s annual presentation evening last month. The immaculate squadron, made up of over 40 dedicated cadets aged 13-20 years old, gathered on parade in their finery to celebrate another successful year.

After a nerve-racking inspection under the critical eye of Group Captain Morrell, a proud Warrant Officer Chris Bone recounted the numerous achievements of these talented youngsters.

They reached the national finals in first aid competitions, came 5th in the Wing Adventure Training Weekend against all other squadrons in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire, and several cadets even flew in a Chinook Helicopter at Easter Camp!

For the first time in many years the Squadron also won the Bartlett Trophy for being the best shooting Squadron in the Northern sector beating another 7 Squadrons to the title.

Individual cadets were then presented with awards, and for the second time in as many years, the Cadet of the Year award went to Cadet Sam Harding for his outstanding efforts to the Squadron, and assistance with the Squadron Web site.

As the parade dismissed friends and family joined the cadets and staff for food and drink in the squadron building.

51 Orton Squadron ATC are now recruiting new cadets to help build on last year’s success, so, if you are aged between 13 and 20, and wish to join, contact Pilot Officer Angela Bone on 07710608711 or visit the squadron website for more information. We parade Tuesday and Wednesday Evenings 1900-2115hrs at our Squadron HQ, Orton Longueville School, Oundle Road Peterborough.
