Like a Fish Out of Water.

Wing Swimming Several cadets from 51 (Orton) Squadron packed their 'cossies' and 'trunks' and made their way down to Peterborough Regional Swimming Pool where squadrons from across the wing gathered get their hair wet.

Wing SwimFrom smooth dives to belly flops and gliding through the pool like a dolphin to splashing around like their lives depended on it the cadets competed in different categories to win points for the squadron. However with entering such a small team, 51 thought they were going to just show their faces, though with perseverance, commitment and encouragement the cadets represented the squadron with pride.

With the boys swimming as fast asthey could against some tough competition they represented the squadron well, however it was the girls that pulled through. Entering a full junior girls team of 4, between them they swam butterfly, breaststroke, backstroke, freestyle and an individual medley to gain a full 36points for the squadron. This did not only win them the junior girls award but also the overall girls award meaning that as a single team they gained more points than that of other squadrons junior and senior teams combined!

Wing SwimWing Swim So, in total 51 came away with 2 gold medals for Cdt Whitehead, a silver for Cdt Toms (C) and a bronze for Cdt Toms (K) and on overall girls trophy with Cdt Whitehead going on to represent the Wing.
