They Shall Not Grow Old!!

The country fell silent today to remember its war dead at services across the country, and the members of 51 (Orton) ATC Squadron were no different.

On a bright autumn morning, 51 (Orton) ATC Squadron joined with 115 (Peterborough) ATC squadron and other cadet forces, to support the Peterborough parade, which was led by representatives of The Army, The Royal British Legion, The Gurka’s and other Veterans.

The procession commenced from behind the Town Hall and took its route up Bridge Street and pass the new Memorial, and on into the Cathedral for the Service of remembrance. Bridge Street was lined with members of the public to support the parade, and comments of praise could be heard.

After an hour service conducted by the Dean and The Reverend Canon Ian Black, the procession retraced their steps, and the salute was taken outside of The Town Hall alongside the new memorial by HM Lord-Lieutenant Mr Duberly. If you had thought the streets were full before the service, it was clearly nothing compared to afterwards and as each organisation passed down the public applauded with sincere appreciations.

After a few words from HM Lord-Lieutenant Mr Duberly, the parade was dismissed and both ATC squadrons were praised and thanked by Flt Lt Stephen Dalton commanding officer of 115 (Peterborough) Squadron, confirming once again and agreed by the attending spectators that the Air Cadets did not only do Peterborough proud but also themselves.
