Region Football Success
Last Saturday saw, Cadet Samuel Avent from 51 (Orton) Squadron Air Cadets make his way to RAF Cranwell to compete in the Air Cadets Corp (ATC) region football competition for Central and East region.
Central and East region had their work cut out for them, after they were told that our Region had not won since 2004 and oh what a challenge that gave them. With the target set, Central and East boys hit the ground running, and soon started to make their mark as they won both of their group games in quick succession, which in turn earned them a place in the final.
Their opponents in the final were London and South East region, who had also been dominant in their qualifying group so the game was clearly going to be tough.
The game was tough from the onset, with it looking as if it was going to go to penalties, right from the beginning. It was close with London and South East hitting the cross bar inside five minutes. This close shave obviously caused Central and East to react as a free kick from Cadet Avent found a strikers head, which helped the ball into the back of the net, this first goal started the dominance from Central and East who managed to score two more to win the final 3-0.
Cadet Avent said “The whole event was great fun, with a good team spirit, and I am now looking forward to next year”.
