What a Credit to the Squadron and Wing

Two Cadets from 51 (Orton) Squadron have earned themselves places at the Region Athletics.  Cdt Sam Avent and Cdt Chloe Toms each represented the Beds and Cambs Wing, with Cdt Avent competing in the Relay whilst Cdt Toms showed her skills at Discus.

Cadet Toms was up first, determined to hold her place at Discus, she performed well with all three of her throws securing her the bronze medal.  After receiving her bronze medal she said “It was really tough; but it was really fun at the same time and I am so pleased to have represented not just the squadron but also the Wing”.

Cadet Avent had an agonising wait till the very end of the day to take his place in the 4x100 final.  The relay team consisted of Sgt McIntyre, Cpl Clubb and Cdt Monck.
They got off to a great start, which carried right through to the end, where they were just beat to the winning post.  However the Silver medal was well earnt and a credit to the team.  Cadet Avent was heard to be saying “It was a thrilling race and I enjoyed being part of a sound relay team”.

RegionAthletics_13All in all Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire wing had a good day out and finished 4th in the overall standings, with help from a high placing class B youths boys team who came second overall.
