Nene Park Academy Fun Day!
Cadets from 51 (Orton) Squadron were out supporting their local school on Saturday at Nene Park Academy's Fun Day, and fun is just what the cadets had. 51's own Head Quarters is based in the grounds of Nene Park Academy hence the two organisations have a great bond.
Eight of the cadets attending the event, performed in the main display arena, first in their usual style of demonstrating their skills in the band corps, followed by an excellent solo performance by Sgt Amy-Louise Paul on her flute. Sgt Paul commented "I have played in the Air Cadet Marching Band more times that I can count, but playing a solo over a mike was a great opportunity and I am so proud to have done it for the Squadron."
The two musical performances were followed by the first outing for the Continuity Drill Team. Cadets performed continuity drill to tunes such as Battle of Britain. Why not visit our website to see the video. The drill team welcomes any new members and Sgt Robinett said “Being at events like this one is a great opportunity for us to meet new possible recruits and to show them what the Air Cadets can offer. Continuity Drill is a very new skill which the squadron has taken on and the cadets have embraced it head on. Our youngest member has only been part of the corp for four months and what he has achieved is amazing."
The day was not just about performing though, it was more about being part of a wider community and encouraging young people to sample what Air Cadets can offer. Also such an event could not go past without trying to raise some money for the squadron, and the Civ Comm supported us well by doing a tea and cake stall, which as always sold out like hot cakes.
If you want to experience something different, and make a difference to others whilst being rewarded yourself, come and see us at our base at Nene Park Academy. We meet on a Tuesday and Wednesday night between 7pm and 9.15pm. Visit our website for more information, www.51sqnatc.co.uk.
