Helping to Guide the Way.
Air Cadets is not always about the Corps, each squadron spends many hours a year helping other charities and organisations, and this Saturday was no different for 51 (Orton) Squadron
After many evenings of preparation by Staff and Cadets alike, 20 members of 51 (Orton) Squadron, attended the Peterborough Athletic track for the first ever Peterborough Guide Dog Fun Day, and Fun really was the key word of the day. Flt Lt Fiona Wright from 447 Henley-on-Thames squadron and the head of the Peterborough Mobility Team spent many hours organising an event which supported not only the public but also volunteers alike.
There were main arena displays which 51 was invited to get involved in. Cadets took part in the demonstration on how people were guided when they have issues with their sight. We also demonstrated some of our own skills, by playing 5 songs from our drum corps repertoire and also gave our second official outing for the Continuity Drill Team.
The cadets were pleased to be ask to run stalls for the younger generation and our own two budding cooks, provided the food for the day and what a delicious smell it was, not to mention the taste, and a queue which continued for most of the event.
So if you want to make a difference, learn something new or stand out from the crowd, why not visit our squadron to see how you could benefit from joining such an organisation. ww.51sqnatc.co.uk, email@example.com, 01733 391071.
